To LaRussa’s pleasure, that total was doubled in one weekend this month.
The team winners from LaRussa’s 2015 tournament entered the Randy Jones Invitational at the Sycuan Resort on March 5-6, and when they won a 36-hole, four-man scramble with a gross score of 29 under par, they earned $10,000 that goes to the trust of Mike Jackson’s sons – Trevor, 19, and Tim, 17.
“We were really shocked, but it’s really cool,” said LaRussa, who lives in El Cajon and through football met Mike Jackson when they were freshmen at Grossmont High.
The tournament winners – Chris Kelly, Casey Young, Sean Hayes, and Zane Keith – were rewarded with an all-expenses paid trip to play Pebble Beach.
In its third year, the Jones Invitational was started by the former Padres pitcher to encourage the growth of charity golf events in San Diego.
